Who Does What

North Walsham Town Council is the first tier of local government, serving the town of North Walsham. You can contact us via telephone, email, or pop into the offices and say hello.

Street Lights

NWTC is responsible for 142 street lights which will have our logo on the sticker.

If you wish to report a faulty light, please contact us stating the location, lamp number and nature of the fault.

Other street lights in the Town are managed by either Norfolk County Council, North Norfolk District Council, or housing associations (this will be indicated on the sticker on the lamp post). Faults to these streetlights can be reported to the them directly via their websites.

Household Bins

Bins are organised by North Norfolk District Council, where you can find information on your collection dates, and report any missed collections within two days.

Litter Bins

Litter bins are provided throughout the town and are either managed by ourselves or North Norfolk District Council. These should be emptied weekly. If you spot an issue, you can report it to us.

Dog Bins

There are a number of doo poo bins located all over town either managed by ourselves or North Norfolk District Council. These should be emptied weekly. If you spot an issue, you can report it to us.

Grit bins are provided by NWTC, but are re-filled by Norfolk County Council Highways. Please use the grit sparingly, as a little goes a long way!

Cemeteries

NWTC looks after three active cemeteries and one closed churchyard, ensuring they are maintained with dignity and care for the community.

Chapel Cemetery (Mundesley Road) – Est. 1856.

North and South Cemetery (Bacton Road) - Est. 1896 - 1902.

St Nicholas Churchyard (Market Place) – Est. 1300s, closed 1856.

Burial records for the cemeteries can be searched online by name or year of death here.

Allotments

NWTC currently manages a small number of allotments, with six plots located at Memorial Park and fifteen plots at the Cemetery Temporary Gardens.

Demand for allotments in the town is high, and the Council is actively exploring options to provide additional plots in the future to help meet local need.

Grass Verges

NWTC carries out grass verge cutting on behalf of Norfolk County Council during the growing season, typically between May and September.

Verges are cut for safety purposes only, rather than for appearance, and grass cuttings are left in place due to the volume involved. Leaving cuttings also benefits the environment by returning nutrients to the soil.

Responsibility for other grass verges within the town lies with a range of organisations. A map showing grass verge maintenance responsibilities is available here.

Markets

North Walsham has a long tradition of markets, established in 1275 by Royal Charter granted by King Henry III.

A weekly market is held in the Market Place every Thursday, alongside a monthly Sunday market which takes place on the last Sunday of each month.

Anyone interested in having a stall is welcome to apply here.

.

The Council also receives requests for memorial benches as a way of commemorating a loved one. A number of suitable locations have been identified within the town’s parks, cemeteries, and churchyard.
